Location: Lake Muskoka, Bala, Ontario

Just minutes from Bala and Port Carling, Muskokaview is a true classic! Located in a northwest bay of Lake Muskoka, this traditionally styled Viceroy cottage and bunkie are situated on a private, well-treed lot. At the waterfront, the large deck atop the boathouse provides an expansive view of the lake and a great place to enjoy the sun. There’s a small sandy beach at one side of the boathouse and a ladder nearby to make swimming easy, whether getting in or out of the water!

The cottage and bunkie each have two bedrooms, a living/dining room, a full kitchen and a bathroom. The main cottage also has a spacious Muskoka room with plenty of windows, a comfortable sofa and a rocking chair. The open-concept living room/dining area of the cottage has windows that rise to the vaulted ceilings, allowing the room to be flooded with natural light. There is plenty of seating in the living room, including two sofas and several armchairs.

The dining table, at one end of this bright room, seats six and the nearby counter has two stools. This L-shaped counter provides space for spreading out a buffet or doing prep for cooking. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher. For those who like to grill, there’s a barbeque on the deck, which spans the entire front of the cottage. This is also a great spot for dining, entertaining or simply relaxing and enjoying the view.

The bedrooms in the main cottage flank a recently updated three-piece bathroom that has a large shower. The large primary bedroom features a queen-sized bed, while the smaller room has a set of twin beds. Both rooms have dressers and closets.

The bunkie, located at the rear of the cottage near the parking area, is completely self-contained. The living room has a comfy sofa, a rocker and two chairs with a small table. The kitchen has a bar fridge, a hotplate and a microwave, making light cooking possible. One bedroom in the bunkie has a queen bed, and the other has two singles. There is a two-piece bathroom in the cabin and, nearby, an outdoor shower. This warm-water outdoor shower is also nice for rinsing off after a swim by the boathouse!

The boathouse is definitely a highlight of this property. The upper deck overlooks Lake Muskoka and has ample furniture for dining or just hanging out. The sandy area beside the boathouse’s lower deck provides a shallow entry to the lake. At the end of this deck, the water deepens to approximately 6-8 feet deep. For those who prefer a water activity that doesn’t necessarily include swimming, a canoe is provided. Those who wish to explore the lake may prefer to bring their own boat, which can be launched at Bala Park Island, about 1.5 miles away.

In the summer, Bala is a great place for strolling along the main street while enjoying an ice cream, munching on a freshly baked treat from Don’s Bakery or visiting some of the numerous scenic and historic sites. Known as the author of Anne of Green Gables and many other books, Lucy Maud Montgomery, who vacationed in Bala in 1922, is in the spotlight at the Bala Museum. In October, Bala’s annual Cranberry Festival is always popular, but you can take a tour of the Muskoka Lakes Cranberry Farm and Winery any time of the year. Did you know that Bala is the Cranberry Capital of Ontario? Bala’s a blast, whether you like cranberries or not!

For those who want to explore in a different direction, Port Carling is slightly further to the north from the Muskokaview cottage. This summer hub is rich with its own share of interesting sites, as well as a vast array of chic shops and eateries. It’s worth checking out, even if all you want to do is a little people-watching!

**Linen packages are available for this cottage, but vacationers are welcome to supply their own. A linen package includes sheets, pillowcases and towels for indoor use. The price for this will be shown as an option in the booking request form.

**Paper products: The cottage will provide enough to get you started, but vacationers must supply their own, including toilet paper and paper towels.

**Adult life jackets are supplied. Vacationers must bring their own children’s life jackets due to safety and liability concerns
