Description:

Location: Chub Lake, Near Dorset, Ontario

This captivating cottage is a great place to make family memories! Furnished in a fun and funky style that blends comfortable, modern elements with antiques and memorabilia, the décor is interesting to visually explore. A row of skylights in the soaring ceiling above the living/dining area allow light to bathe the room and highlight the eclectic decorative details, such as some large stuffed fish that are an example of what can be caught locally. Coupled with the large front windows, this is a wonderful space to hang out, play games or just enjoy the view.

This bright indoor space opens out onto a large deck that extends along the full front of the cottage and wraps around one side. Outfitted with an assortment of chairs, stools and tables, this is also an excellent area for hanging out or dining. A screened section at one end provides a bug-free sanctuary on summer evenings when the breeze isn’t quite enough to keep mosquitos at bay. Since the cottage is situated partway up the hill from the lake, there will usually be at least a whiff of wind.

Halfway down to the lake, a second decked area curves around the fire pit. Furnished with Muskoka chairs, this will surely be a popular spot to hang out too! At the waterfront, another stretch of decking leads to the dock, which is also equipped with Muskoka chairs and a table. There are plenty of places for relaxing here! But, when ready to be more active, there are numerous options for water-based activities. The cottage has a full assortment of watercraft – a canoe, two kayaks, two paddleboards, a pedal boat and a metal rowboat, which is great for fishing! As well, the deep water off the end of the dock makes swimming a pleasant option.

Back inside the cottage, the waterfront can be seen from almost anywhere in the open-concept common area. The kitchen is two steps up from the living/dining room, so it too has a good view of the lake. A plush loveseat, sofa and armchair create a horseshoe around a coffee table at one end of the room, making it ideal for playing games or watching TV. At the other end, the large rectangular dining table seats eight and the adjacent counter has a pair of stools. Or, if the group doesn’t want to have a sit-down dinner, the counter and the kitchen island can serve as buffet space. The kitchen has ample counters for food prep, as well as a large fridge, flat-topped stove, microwave, four-slice toaster and other small appliances.

The cottage has a total of three bedrooms, plus a full bath and a powder room. The two-piece bathroom is located on the main level, as is the primary bedroom, which has a king-sized bed. Situated in the upstairs hallway between the other two bedrooms, the three-piece bathroom is equipped with a modern, glass-front shower. One upper bedroom also has a king bed and the third one has a pair of queen-sized beds.

The upstairs hallway overlooks the living/dining area, where the family will typically gather for evening entertainment. The smart TV in the living room has Bluetooth and internet access but there are no electronic games. However, there is a nice selection of DVDs and, in the antique dresser below the television, there are several drawers full of board games that are fun for all ages!

For those who want to seek entertainment in the surrounding area, the Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower is nearby. Or, right in the village of Dorset, there are two museums, as well as numerous shops and eateries, including the long-popular Robinson’s General Store. The Lake of Bays Marine Museum and Navigation Society also offers interesting boat tours on the historic SS Bigwin. No matter what one chooses to do, this cottage is a great place to start, or to just stay and enjoy the view!
