Located half an hour north of the small town of Havelock and just 20 minutes drive from beautiful Kawaratha Highlands Provincial Park, Loon Call is the perfect getaway destination for those seeking a traditional lakefront vacation. Boasting 180’ of waterfront on lovely Lake Kasshabog, this cozy cottage offers plenty of outdoor fun for vacationers of all ages, including two canoes, a massive 32’ dock large enough to accommodate three motorboats, and plenty of comfortable chairs to sit in and relax while soaking up the sun or enjoying spectacular sunsets. And for nature lovers, there’s always the chance to catch a glimpse of the family of loons that live nearby… and even if you don’t see them, you’ll hear them!
Families love Loon Call’s two-acre property as it allows them to spread out a little as they relax – it’s almost like a “mini” family compound, with a large bunkie far enough away from the main cottage to ensure the kids can have a little privacy of their own.
Interior highlights of the 1000 sq. ft. main cottage include its bright and sunny kitchen. With huge windows overlooking the lake and the adjacent island, it’s the perfect spot to whip up one of those memorable cottage meals, whether it is cooking it indoors or by the outdoor propane BBQ. Thanks to its pine walls, pine cabinets and tiled backsplash, the well-stocked kitchen certainly exudes a genuine cottage feel. Next to the kitchen is the equally bright dining area with its great views and a long table with bench style seating where up to 10 guests can sit comfortably over dinner or for family games later in the day. After dinner, the cozy wood-paneled living room can seat four comfortably and is home to a 32” flat screen TV and DVD player, along with an extensive DVD library (satellite TV is available), board games, and video games.
Come bedtime, guests have two options: the two-bedroom main cottage (sleeps 5), or the large bunkie (sleeps 6). In the main cottage, the intimate master bedroom has a queen bed (sleeps 2) while the second bedroom offers a bunk bed with a double below and a single on top (sleeps 3). A pleasantly decorated three-piece bathroom serves both bedrooms, while an added bonus is the laundry room, complete with an additional fridge provided to keep your drinks cool. There’s also a ramped entrance into the cottage off this area, making it easier for people with mobility issues to have access.
The large bunkie at Loon Call is almost a cottage all to itself. Able to accommodate six guests in its two sets of bunks (each with a double lower and single upper), this cedar-ceilinged area not only boasts its own separate two-piece washroom but also comes equipped with a 24” flat screen TV (with satellite).
The real fun, though, takes place outside. Boasting three different deck areas adjacent the main cottage – all of them west-facing and overlooking the lake – there’s no shortage of great places to kick back and relax. The smallest deck is level with the kitchen’s lakeside entrance, and is level and easy to access. It also overlooks another great feature: a large hot tub. A few steps down is another deck, this one boasting four comfortable chairs and day-long sunshine. The largest deck area, however, is just steps away from the water and features seating for six (including two zero gravity chairs) and a large canopy umbrella for those preferring a little shade. There’s also a great fire pit here, just perfect for toasting those marshmallows while enjoying the sunset views or the sight of stars sparkling on the water.
For those who like swimming, the water’s extremely clear here, and deep enough off the 32’ dock for swimming (there’s a ladder for quick and easy exit). There’s also a shallow area for those who prefer a gentler approach to entering the water. In addition to its excellent canoeing, Lake Kasshabog also offers plenty of great fishing, especially for bass and pickerel. And for those who like motorized water sports, a nearby marina offers plenty of rentals. Be sure to check out their weekly fish fry!
Other area activities include easy access to an extensive ATV trail network, as well as biking and hiking trails.
