Nestled
on the shores of beautiful Lake Kawawaymog at the western
boundary to
Algonquin Park, Mateena’s Algonquin Canteena is the perfect jumping-off spot for canoe trips into Ontario’s largest Provincial Park or a relaxing holiday getaway.
The western orientation of the extensive wrap-around deck provides amazing sunset views and glorious afternoon sunshine, the lake is shallow and has a wonderful sandy bottom, wildlife abounds, and the cottage’s wood stove and propane lamps provide a cozy ambiance.
Upon entering the spacious, open, Panabode-style cottage, there is a wonderful aroma of cedar from the walls and ceiling of the cottage. The newly renovated kitchen has a propane stove and refrigerator, a view of the lake, and opens into the living- dining area. There is plenty of seating area in the living room, where you can enjoy the view of the lake through the large picture windows or relax by the wood stove while reading one of the novels to be found at the cottage. A door off the kitchen leads to the deck, with its barbeque, Muskoka chairs, and wonderful lake view.
There are three bedrooms at the cottage, one with a queen-sized bed, the second with a double bed, and the third with a set of bunks.
Although there is no indoor toilet, there is an indoor bathroom sink and bathtub, and a clean, well-maintained outhouse close to the cottage.
Steps lead down from the deck toward the lake, with additional steps leading through the mature trees to the shoreline. Here there is a sturdily built, thirty-foot dock from which to swim in the clean, clear water, or where you may enjoy a relaxing evening drink while watching the sun set. The depth of the water is shallow and the bottom of the lake is firm and sandy.
Lake Kawawaymog has great bass fishing, and a rowboat, canoe and life jackets are provided with the cottage. Explore the nearby islands, watch for wildlife, or take a day and follow the shore of the lake to enter the meandering Amable de Fond River and paddle up into Algonquin Park.
You will leave this cottage refreshed, relaxed and looking forward to returning next year!
