Appliances and furnishings: dishwasher, microwave, many kitchen appliances, excellent cookware, DVD player, television, VCR, barbeque, fire pit, fireplace, phone, pillows, and blankets.
This property offers an excellent getaway location for a large family or group of friends. It is a short walk to the beach in Oliphant and a five-minute drive to Sauble beach.
Sauble has been rated as one of the top ten beaches in Canada. The soft white sand beaches in go on forever and the water is clean and smells fresh. Sauble is touristy, Oliphant is secluded if you want to get away from the crowds.
Available extras - If required, linens and towels can be provided for an additional charge. However beds are provided with protective covers, blankets, comforters and pillows with covers that are laundered between guests.
Pets - Pets are allowed as long as owners clean up after them. Otherwise there will be a charge. No vicious breeds and cats must be de-clawed. You are responsible for any damages your pet may cause.
Smoking Policy - There is no smoking in the cottage
About the Cottage - The cottage is located on a ½ acre lot with a campfire
pit and is surrounded by trees. There is a large deck at the back and
a veranda in the front providing morning and afternoon sun.
The kitchen has been modernized with updated appliances and is equipped
with top quality cookware. The cottage has two plus one bedrooms; one
room has a queen bed the second room has a double bed with an upper
bunk and an additional single bed. The third room can double as a bedroom
too sleep two or can remain as a cozy sitting room. It features an on-suite
bathroom a fireplace and French doors that open onto the large back
deck.
The spacious living room has three sofas with one being a pullout, providing
room for two more.
The dining room table is designed for six but there is room for more
at the table.
Renters are required to leave the cottage in the same clean manner it
was when they arrived. We don't expect it to be perfect therefore as
a service we give the cottage a quick once over to clean anything that
was missed. However there will be a $50.00 an hour charge if major cleaning
is required, this includes clean up of yard debris.
Activities - Provided for you at the cottage is an information package
with details and phone numbers regarding these activities and more.
Some examples are...
On the water - Sea-doo, canoe, kayak and boat rentals are available
at many locations in the area. New the last two years are Pontoon boat
tours of the Fishing Islands in Oliphant (a must do, even the locals
are impressed) Enjoy canoeing the many near by rivers and small lakes.
Guided canoe trips are also available. Kite surfing has also become
quite popular.
Shopping - There are some really neat shops in Wiarton and of course
Sauble has all the regular beach type stores and more. On Saturdays
you can walk to the corner market. A ½-hour drive brings you to Southampton
with its many unique shops and market open seven days a week.
Fishing - No boat. Many fish off the docks in Oliphant, Wiarton and
Colpoise Bay. You are 10 minutes from Wiarton and the deep-freezing
waters of Georgian Bay. Fly fish the Rankin and Sauble River (Lake Huron)
or trailer your boat and check out the many inland lakes. Wiarton also
has a yearly fishing durby.
Horseback Riding - Near by Purple Valley, Sauble Trails and more.
Golf - Wiarton and Sauble both have a golf course.
Day trips - Up here even a drive is a pleasure because the scenery is
so beautiful. Even the elderly can enjoy all of these suggestions if
they are in half decedent shape. Just wear something good to walk in.
Grandma would suggest a walking stick as well.
Cyprice Lake where you can hike to the Grodo bring some lunch or snacks
and don’t forget your bathing suit.
Tobermory. Enjoy the glass bottom boat tours of the ships wrecks and
combine it with a visit to Flower Pot Island. You can enjoy many of
the stops along the way to Tobermory.
Greg’s Caves - A self guided tour; it takes about two hours if you check
out every nook and cranny.
Water Falls - Spend the day to see all 10 waterfalls in the area or
just check out a few.
Fall Activities - In addition to the already listed activities why not
come stay for Thanksgiving and check out Pumpkin Fest in near by Port
Elgin. Fall is an amazing time of year in this area!
Winter Activities - The large driveway will be plowed but you may have
to shovel the deck.
Snowmobiling - Leave the cottage by sled and immediately hook up to
the trails. When nowhere else has snow we normally have the snow and
lots of it! Meals can be arranged at additional charge if requested
in advance.
Ice Fishing - Only a ten minute drive away, bring your own or rent a
Hut on Copoys bay or Wiarton.
Groundhog Week - February Blues? The first week in February. Come
and enjoy the week long festivities that take place in Wiarton and Sauble
for Wiarton Wile, the Groundhog that casts his shadow to predict how
many weeks before spring arrives.
Waterfront: A five-minute walk
takes you past the variety store and puts you at just one of the large
sandy beaches in Oliphant. Not only is it a safe beach for kids to play
the waters are considerably warmer then in other regions. A public access
boat launch is available with options for mooring.
On a windy day Sauble is awesome if you like big waves rolling waves.
You can purchase body surfing boards from one of the many shops if you
don’t all ready have one. Oliphant is surrounded by the Fishing Islands
so the water there is always calm.
Beach Volleyball? Bring a net and a ball if you have one. Sauble has
many spots were you can set up and play. Peach Volleyball tournaments
take place there each year.
Skiing: This area caters to cross
county skiing. Less then a 5 minute drive brings you to just one of
the wooded ski trails. There may be a small fee to use the trails, there
is ample parking.
Availability: Year-round. Great
for cottagers, cross country skiers and snowmobiling.
